Are you perhaps asking about the standalone program known as Personal Ancestral File (PAF)? FamilySearch no longer offers PAF. There are other stand alone computer programs that you could use instead that have much better capabilities than the latest version of PAF (linking pictures and pdf files for example). Probably the one that is most similar to PAF is Ancestral Quest. But there are many others. See FamilySearch Solutions Gallery Family Tree Management for many options which will sync your data with FamilySearch Family Tree. I believe all of those listed here have some sort of free or trial version so you could test them out to see which is easiest for you to use. They all do pretty much the same things! Hope this helps! If you were not looking for PAF, please respond back here and we will see if we can help you otherwise.

Hi Thanks for the question. Family search is a web based program so there are no upgrades you need to make to the web version of Family Search. There is nothing you need to do. If you are talking about the Family Search Mobile app or the Family Search Memories app you can check on the appropriate app store and check for upgrades. In any case, whether you are talking the web based version or the mobile apps. all the data is kept on the web servers, There is nothing on your device and no need to transfer anything. Hope this helps. Let us know if you have further questions.

When you say earliest version of FamilySearch, are you referring to the floppy disks the Church used to sell back in the 1990's? Where you could enter your family data in to your own computer? This is the computer program called PAF (Personal Ancestral File) which is no longer being sold.
The first answer given above by @Anne LoForte Willson explains how to get a newer computer program that can use the family data that you originally entered in. You can transfer that data to the newer programs and pick up with your research where you left off!
Here is that first answer again:
