Proxy ordinances
Before the pandemic, I have shared numerous names of my ancestors to the Temple for proxy ordinances. However, the pandemic stops them from being performed due to Temple closings. I don't know if it is your policy to perform the necessary ordinances in the specific temple where the names were submitted. But, may I suggest that, for the sake of those waiting for the ordinances on the other side, that proxy ordinances be performed for them wherever a temple is open, regardless of where temple district they originated.

Hello, Christian.
Thank you for your suggestion about ordinances shared with the temple. Though there is no expiration date for ordinances shared with the temple system the policies and procedures for completing those ordinances have not changed. Here is what the knowledge article regarding what happens to ordinances shared with the temple system says:
"The ordinances you share with the temple initially go to the temple that is nearest you. The temple will then distribute them to people who come to the temple without their own family name cards. How quickly this happens depends on the number of ordinances that other people have shared with the temple, as well as the number of people attending the temple who need a family name card.
"Shared ordinances can be reserved by other members of the Church up until the time that the temple prints the family name card. Once the card has been printed, the ordinances are no longer available to reserve. These secondary reservations expire in 90 days, at which point the ordinances are returned to the temple.
"As long as the temple hasn't printed the name card or another person hasn't reserved the ordinance, you can unshare the ordinance at any time."
Here is what the companion knowledge article about how long it takes for the temple to complete shared names states:
"It is difficult to predict how long it will take for ordinances shared with the temple to be completed:
- Temples distribute ordinance cards as they are needed by the patrons who visit. The number of ordinance cards distributed each week can vary.
- Ordinances that have been shared with the temple can be reserved by other people who share your same ancestors. In some cases, this might happen within a few days. In other cases, it might not happen at all. These second reservations expire in 90 days. After that, they are returned to the temple, and the ordinances are distributed in the same order that they were originally received.
"Currently, male endowments take the longest to complete. The other ordinances (baptism, confirmation, and initiatory) for male or female generally do not take as long."

As temples resume operations, we will undoubtedly see those shared ordinances being completed, but it's going to be a slow process.
Thank you, again, for your suggestion.

Ron Tanner did a what is coming to FamilySearch LDS edition for Rootstech 2021 and in the future is planned 1 temple list where the name waiting longest will be completed first. It was an very imformative video just like the other videos he has done. Watch them all from this Rootstech and years past to learn more about the FamilySearch system and why things work like they do.
