unmerging
I have been researching an Esther Scargill. There is a potential match I found (MP1L-2RD). Some of the information is correct for mine, but not all. I have taken the correct information for my own after contacting the main contributor. My question is about a merge that was previously made with (KL7F-NK4). I believe that would have been correct for my information but not for (MP1L-2RD). Should they be unmerged, which I am not sure I can do? Thank you for your help.

As this is your relative in Family tree, you can be the person to make the determination of whether or not the records were incorrectly merged. If, after thoroughly studying the historical records, you decide that KL7F-NK4 should not have been merged and deleted, you can restore that person by using the Restore Person link from her deleted record. Bear in mind that, after restoring a person who was deleted, you may still need to add information and relationships that were deleted when the record was merged as a "Restore Person" operation does not put everything back to the same state as before the merge. Also, some artifacts, such as sources and replaced information, from the deleted record may still be retained in the surviving record since the Restore Person feature does not operate on the surviving record at all.

The Help Center has several articles on the subject of fixing incorrect merges that you can find by searching for "restore person" or "unmerge."
