INDEXTING: Ireland, Antrim Church Records 1740-1913 [Part A] [M3C3 - ZR2}
Birth record has first name and what appears to be a surname for the child followed by father's first name, Mother's first name and a surname. The surname following the parents first names differs from the surname given to the child. This record seems to be recorded differently than others an i am wondering if the last surname is the mother's maiden name?

Here's my take on it: The father's surname is the same as the child's. The mother's surname is her maiden name.
But only the researcher can make that assumption about the father's surname. As the indexer, you would mark it blank.
Field Help: "Do not assume a surname from the surnames of others mentioned in the document."

Thank you for the advice. I do know that you are not to assume a name but, this was weird to me because the record reads: Sue Smith of John and Mary Jones. i will leave the father's name blank and let someone smarter than me figure it out. Thanks again.

It's an odd format, that's for sure.
