errors on my tree

Is there a way that I can make a paper copy? I clicked on descendancy and there are a few errors. I find it hard to go back and forth to make changes. If I had a paper copy it would be easier for me.

Also, did I click something incorrectly. All of a sudden I have lots more on my tree for Smiechowicz going back to 1700 which I did not do so I am unsure if these are correct. Who can I notify to verify that they did the confirming work.

agnus smiechowicz owczarz

1872–1948 • GM2W-MZS is in two places and this one should not be. This is incorrect. She is already listed as sister of Piotr which is correct.

agnus smiechowicz owczarz

1872–1948 • GM2W-MZS is incorrect, Anna Strojny

1926–2002 • G9FB-ZG2 is incorrect bronislawa stanczik

1929–2018 • G9XP-PVW is incorrect and should be removed they are listed twice

Help please

    Hello Halina Repp,

Thank you for your questions. You wish to make a copy of the descendancy chart you view, because of errors you want to correct. Have you tried to right click, while in the view? It may take in several pages. Using two tabs may also work. One on the error page, and the other on the details page of the same individual.

For Agnus Smiechowicz Owczarz, GM2W-MZS, she is listed under two different mothers. There are no sources to know which mother is hers. The father is the same in both records. When you find which mother is correct, you can delete her from the other mother and father (his other record will not be altered). The link above will give you directions.

As for Anna Strojny, Gm2W-MZS, and Bronislawa Stanzik, G9FB-ZG2, they can be removed from the father alone, because of being a duplicate record, by using the same process has outlined in the above article link.

As for the extra additions you found incorrectly, we suggest some research may be in order.

We hope this information will be helpful.

We wish you success in removing the children from the incorrect families.

    @Halina Repp

You may find it useful, in addition to the comments already offered, to open various tabs on your browser. This is what many of us do. For example, if you are on the descendancy view and you find a person where you need to make a change, click on the name and the summary card will display. At the bottom of the summary card are prompts for tree and person. Right click on person and select open in new tab. This will open the person page on a new tab in your browser while leaving your descendancy view open on the original tab. You can make the changes necessary on the person page and then select the tab to go back to the descendancy view. This works really well in many others areas of FamilySearch and in fact any where you are browsing since this is a function of your browser. The only caution is that you may have to refresh the page in order to see the changes made. You could google search on "open in new tab" for more information. This is a good tool.

    Halina,

In addition to the previous excellent suggestions, you can also print the features that are in FamilySearch. One of the options to print the page you are on is to hold Control and touch the letter "P" (Ctrl+P). You can also print other features in FamilyTree by using the information within the article at the link here: https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-can-i-print-fan-charts-and-pedigree-charts-in-family-tree

The related articles at the bottom of the link are also helpful at times.

I believe the best thing for me and maybe others is to print the How do I correct page. This way I can see the paper copy and do the corrections online.

    Thank you one and all.

I have been successful in making changes.

    One new question please.

I have a couple relationship between Piotr Smiechowicz and wife Rozalia with 3 children , remarriage by Piotr to Katarzina with 2 children. The second marriage does not show up on the family tree but does show on the person Piotr. Is there a way to show it on the tree?. It wants me to make a preference? Why not show both?

    Thank you,

    Halina

    Hi Helina,

You wish to know why both marriages for Piotr Smiechowicz do not show on the Pedigree view in Family Tree.  It becomes too confusing if you attempt to show multiple ancestor Trees from a single person, so the current option is to choose a preferred parent and display that tree. If you want to see the other, you would choose them as the preferred parent. The article link below may be helpful.

    https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-set-the-preferred-spouse-or-parents

We wish you success in choosing the preferred parent you are interested in , in the Pedigree view.

I have chosen Rozalia as preferred since she is my grandmother but when I show the tree to my cousins, I could change the preferred to their grandmother. They are coming for a visit from Poland. Then I can change it back to preferred Rozalia when they leave. No one really spoke about Rozalia since she died when my mother was three months old. I am trying now to locate her family in hopes of finding a picture. Thank yoiu for your reply. I was hoping there was a way to show both on one tree but it is ok if I cannot.

How exciting to receive a visit from your cousins. Hope all goes well with it.

We also wish you success in finding a picture. You may also wish to find some documentation, like a birth record, death record, or marriage record, so you can possibly locate a local newspaper with an article with a picture. Your cousins may be able to advise you how to gather this information.

    Good luck.

    Hello Halina.

Regarding seeing multiple spouses in the pedigree landscape view, you don't have to go back to the person page to set the preferred parents to change the spouse. You can change to the other spouse or spouses right in the landscape view:

    1. To display a different spouse for a person on the tree, do this:
      1. Look at the couple box. If more than one spouse is in the system, you see a small down arrow to the left of the currently displayed spouse.
      2. Click the down arrow.
      3. From the list of spouses, click the spouse that you want to display on the pedigree.

When you change to the other spouse, any children from that marriage also appear.

Hoping this helps you navigate the pedigree when you are sharing the information with your family.

    Another question.

I was told that Russia does not have access to Family search but if I send the link for family search for my Khodyrev family so they can see the tree, will they be able to open it?

Also can I send the link to my Polish family?

thank you again for all the help. This is truly a wonderful site.

When you make a preference, you are only selecting which of the mother/father relationships will show up on your tree view. You can have several husband/wife relationships, each with their own biologic and or adopted children, but you can only have one of the seleccted, or "Preferred". The one that is selected as "Preferred" is the one you want to see at this moment. You were sent earlier a link to an article that describes using the Preferred option and it is here also: https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-set-the-preferred-spouse-or-parents

If you have other questions, you can reply to this email directly and we will do our best to help you. Thank you for usng FamilySearch/Family Tree.

Re: Sending the link to your family in Russia and in Poland:

You can send the link, but we cannot be certain if those receiving the link will be able to open it due to the restrictions on websites available in various countries. As you most surely know, some counries do not allow their citizens to work with records of deceased people. You could possibly check with your relatives and ask them if it is okay to send the links to them or you could send the link to the information and let them see if they can open it. The first thing they would need to do would be to create a FamilySearch account using the information at this link: https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-create-a-free-familysearch-account

Ok, I did not know they would have to create an account. I will try this.

Russia makes it hard to get information from them if you do not live in Russia but I found my cousins anyway. Hopefully they can open my tree so I would not have to make copies to send to them. Thank you.
