Adjustable Ruler
When we changed over to web Indexing, the capabilities of the ruler changed. We used to be able to change the width of the ruler which was very helpful. Now the width of the ruler stays the same and cannot be adjusted. Please fix it. It would be very helpful. I used to use the ruler all the time but I haven't used it since we changed over. Now I have to use other strategies which is OK, but the ruler would be much better for me. Thanks for your help.

Hi @jonemari check out this conversation and see if it helps any.

The https://www.arulerforwindows.com/ tool recommended by John seems to work okay with the ruler switched to reading guide and the skin set to Plastic see thru. However, since that's a gray ruler on a gray image, I've suggested to the developer that it would be helpful to add Yellow see thru as well. This is as we wait for FamilySearch to add the ability to resize the built-in ruler.

Hi Kelton. Have you tried the Aqua Skin that is listed under Alternate Skins? It is translucent

Hi Again Kelton. You can actually edit the yellow skin and make it more transparent with a slider. Right now it is set to zero transparency.
Check out this YouTube video by the author of A Ruler for Windows
But also, here is the most transparent version of the yellow-skin ruler. The slider is all the way to the left in the Edit Skin dialogue.

Here is the "Edit Skin" dialogue with the yellow reading guide being edited, and the transparency slider all the way to the left (most transparent). That's what I did to get the above example. You may want it more opaque, so slide to the right and save.

It looks like the video link didn’t survive the post. But I believe that it’s the same as the one on the developer’s site. Nonetheless, a help panel up after you clicki on ? on the yellow reading guide. The “Edit Skin” button is on the lower left of the help screen that comes up. Click on that and you’ll see the Transparency slider as in the screen snip I posted.

Hi John, you're right, I completely missed the big, obvious Edit Skins button on the Help screen that allows the Yellow skin to be made transparent! :) Thank you!

You’re welcome, Kelton.

The suggestion for using a PC ruler is fine but I do a lot of indexing on a Mac. How about a suggestion for us?

I find it most helpful to use the ruler to track my indexing location - I don't really need it between me and the view of the record I am indexing. I can use brightness/contrast image functions to try to view the Image better - but typically I find leaving those settings alone throughout indexing of the batch is preferable.

Hi Marie. Here below is a link to what looks like an excellent and versatile reading ruler (Screen Ruler by Claro Software) that comes in a version for a Mac and also one for a Windows PC. The video below is for the Mac version. I'm pretty sure that it's not free. I'll check into that in a minute.
The system is messing with my link so I'll post it again, just in case.

Oh. It's very much not cheap. $135.00 per seat. But it does look like a great tool from the demo video.

Update: Apparently Screen Ruler for Mac supports “Fanily Sharing” so that up to 6 fanily members can share one license. Here below are a couple of screen shots where the second one references that feature.

Here is a link to a free Mac ruler (Free Ruler 2.0) but it looks fairly crude and seems to be a marked ruler that might make an OK reading guide.more than actually being a reading guide.
