Wrong child with same name attached to descendant line - best solution?

Hope someone can give me an idea about the best way to change a situation where the earlier (and presumed infant-deceased) child is attached to the descendant line. My specific case involves MGVH-YGV William Fenton 1744 who I think is the correct person with a descendant line, and L6BF-MN2 William Fenton 1736 who has the descendant line attached. Is it acceptable to keep these in place but switch their baptism records? That would seem the quickest solution, but I'd like to be sure that's ok to do and won't cause other issues.

Change the dates and detach the christening source from each record.

After you have removed the source and changed the dates the sources should once again come up in the record hints on each record.
