Untangling a messed up family record
I've been building a tree for a Connecticut Yankee family going back to the 1600s. This has involved both adding new records and linking to existing trees; as well as merging duplicates, etc. Somehow, in this process, one family has become confabulated with a family group in England about the same time (1830s). I can't say if I did this or if other hands were involved but these two parents in Litchfield Co, now have two daughters born in Wiltshire before they were married.
I'd like to delete the two daughters but because multiple hands were involved, the system won't let me. I don't know how to proceed. Suggestions? Thanks!

You probably shouldn't delete those daughters. Instead, create new parents in Wiltshire and attach the two daughters to them and remove them from the parents in Connecticut.
Good luck!

OK. I think I can back out of the problem that way. I'll give it a shot.

You might carefully read through this help center article as it is possible the parents in the family are really multiple people combined. Sometime unmerging will resolve issues like this.
How do I fix a merge that has information from multiple people in Family Tree?
You can go to the help center and search for this article.

I looked at the change history for the PIDs in question. The merge must have happened a long time ago. It was just too difficult to undo. I created new parents for the two girls christened in UK and detached them from the Connecticut family. I was able to add some more sources and facts to this family before I launched them out into the pond to fend for themselves. I then refused the offer to remerge the fathers and re-add the daughters back and added a note saying they were not the same and don't merge them again.
