I think they are most commonly referred to as "ID numbers" - At one time they were called "PID numbers" - many long time users still refer to them as "PID numbers". the original description was "Personal Identification Number". so I suppose the official name is now "Identification number"

Answers conflict a bit. What I am looking for is something like: the unique identification number for each Person Record in the Family Tree database is a Person Identification Number abbreviated as the acronym PID.

Does this reflect the current style. The article is a bit ambiguous. "These are person identification numbers (ID),..." It also has errors. "These person IDs are unique to each deceased person." It is also true for person records for living people. "On your family tree, click or tap the Recents tab on the top left side of the screen." It is not always there. "A pop-up window will appear that says “Copy ID.” To copy the person ID, click this link." Also not always true. This is why I want a clear and unequivocal statement.

It will be hard to get clear and unequivocal statements because the FamilySearch website is constantly being updated and the Help Center articles usually lag behind several months or years.

The most up to date terminology as seen on the most recent pages is that the seven character code is simply called the ID. The P has been dropped.

The Recents menu is only there when it makes sense to have it there, that is when you are on one of the sections under Family Tree.

The obsolete old style way to copy an ID was to triple click on it then use your browser's copy function.

The current old style way to copy an ID on older style pages is to click on the ID so that "copy ID" appears:

then click Copy ID.

The new style way to copy an ID on the most recent page updates where the IDs appear in a grey oval is to simply click on the ID. A notice pops up that you copied it:

So over time this copying process has gone from three left clicks and a right click, to two clicks, to now just one click.

Makes it sound like "We know what's best [for you]". In this situation asking for a specific example is positive all around.
