New CATEGORY, "Q & A" Section, of TEMPLE, OPEN to ALL, regardless if one is a Church Member or not
FamilySearch
Subject: The NEW "Category", in the "Q and A" Section, of "Temple", is OPEN to ALL, regardless if one is a Member of the Church or not
Question: Is that NEW "Category", in the "Q and A" Section, of "Temple", OPEN to ALL, regardless if one is a Member of the Church or not - by, "Design"; OR, in ERROR?
That NEW "Category", in the "Q and A" Section, of "Temple", SHOULD be a place that/were Members of the Church can feel comfortable to post 'Questions' regarding "Temple" Work, WITHOUT being concerned that Users/Patrons who are NOT Members of the Church can participate (ie. either by, view; and/or, 'Answering'/'Responding'); as, has been the case in PREVIOUS versions of Forums such as this.
Could you please advise on WHAT the situation/consideration is regarding the accessing of the NEW "Category", in the "Q and A" Section, of "Temple" by Users/Patrons who are NOT Members of the Church.
The reason that I ask is that, I saw that a User/Patron who is NOT a Member of the Church, was able to, 'see'; and, 'access' that NEW "Category", in the "Q and A" Section, of "Temple"; whereas, did not try to 'Answer'/'Respond'.
This matter is of concern ...
And, it is NOT a matter of ... 'having anything to hide' ... or, keeping secrets ...
It is simply a matter of ... 'keeping some things, "In-House" (ie. "Temple" Work), rather than in the "Public" arena ...
[ As has been evident, the case, in some posts, in PREVIOUS versions of Forums such as this ]
'Thank You' in advance.
Brett
ps:
FYI
It was somewhat of a mystery; as ...
Some of the various "Posts", that were "Moved", to the NEW "Category", in the "Q and A" Section, of "Temple", from OTHER Section, could NOT, initially, be accessed through, "Notifications"; or, "E-mail" (Notifications); as, "Permission Denied" - You DO NOT have such access.
Now, I 'see' (as of a few minutes ago) that; as, the NEW "Category", in the "Q and A" Section, of "Temple" NOW appears, that that ... "Permission Denied" - You DO NOT have such access ... is NO LONGER the case; and, those various "Post" NOW appear in that NEW "Category".
Hence, my ORIGINAL 'Question'.

Hi @Brett . This was intentional. The catalyst for this change has two parts:
- We don’t yet have automated processes to identify any specific segments/audience/people, so access would need to be granted on an individual basis.
- The permission denied error was due to the category being restricted.
The Q & A area of the community is intended to be used primarily for product/support related questions or issues. It was not intended to be used as a group or discussion board for members only. We’re planning on moderating this category as well - if the topics/posts become sensitive in nature we’ll move the discussion offline.
If there is a need/desire to have a dedicated area for members, I’d suggest we discuss setting up a private group for that purpose..
We are planning on developing some automated provisioning in the future, likely towards the end of the year. We can revisit this topic at that point if desired, but for now a private group appears to be our best option.

'Thank You' so much for responding.
I totally understand the "Permission Denied" 'Message'; as, it is NOT an 'Error'; due to, the fact that NEW "Category", in the "Q and A" Section, of "Temple", was not YET, at the time, "Publicly" accessible.
That I do not have such a problem/issue with, that was just an inconvenience ...
What really concerns me is that I raised the matter, of 'Groups', for Members of the Church ONLY (specifically, relating to "Temple" Work), some time ago in the later part of the "Testing" during the Development of the NEW Platform of the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum.
Incredulous, nothing seems to have be done in that regard ...
When you say that, "... We don’t yet have automated processes to identify any specific segments/audience/people ...", I find that hard to comprehend; as, 'FamilySearch' itself, is ALREADY aware of the 'Status' of a User/Patron, by the use of their "Church" Membership Number.
Or, are you saying/implying that, in fact, that the 'Status' of a User/Patron; as, to where or not, they are a Member of the Church, CANNOT be "Ported" to (or, "Identified" by) the NEW Platform of the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum?
And, yet, in Our "Profiles" under "Role", the NEW Platform of the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, can TELL us MANY things about a User/Patron; but, NOT, as to whether or not, they are a Member of the Church.
IF, that is the case; THEN, that is ASTONISHING ...
Wow ...
That has taken me by surprise ...
Brett
ps: That "Category" of "Temple" in "Q and A" NEEDS to be "Private", for Members of the Church ONLY.
pps: IF, such CANNOT be the case; THEN, I suppose, a "Private" 'Group', under the 'Groups' Section, SHOULD be the way to go; certainly, until SOMETHING better is devised.
Again, Wow ...

Hi @Brett . - As you have noted in other threads, this is a new platform and will take time to develop and mature. My comments above were intended to provide you with a few of the considerations used when making the visibility change and were directed at the community platform, not FamilySearch.org
I appreciate, respect and agree with your perspective on the need to have an area where certain questions or topics can be asked/discussed privately or with a small subset of individuals. At this point, Q & A is not intended to be this area.

Non-members of the church are able to access information and claims on many different websites, some neutral and others "anti-Mormon", about temple work, ordinances and what happens during Latter Day Saint temple ceremonies. I understand that individual cases may be sensitive particularly if living or recently deceased people are involved, but it's worth keeping this in mind.

G'Day, across the 'Tasman', to a 'Kiwi' Cuz ...
REGARDLESS if such information about "Temple" Work is available elsewhere ...
Which, I agree, it certainly is ...
Such DOES NOT have ANY "Relevance" in relation to the matter 'at hand', being of a place that/were Members of the Church can feel comfortable to post 'Questions' regarding "Temple" Work, WITHOUT being concerned that Users/Patrons who are NOT Members of the Church can participate (ie. either by, view; and/or, 'Answering'/'Responding'); as, has been the case in PREVIOUS versions of Forums such as this.
And, you yourself, would be VERY well aware of such, being a, former, regular participant, in the OLD 'FamilySearch' ("GetSatisfaction") 'Feedback' Forum.
And ...
As I referenced in my original post:
This is NOT a matter of ... 'having anything to hide' ... or, keeping secrets ...
It is simply a matter of ... 'keeping some things, "In-House" (ie. "Temple" Work), rather than in the "Public" arena ...
Just like, MANY; Many; many, OTHER "Organisations" do ...
And ...
'Yes', as you yourself mention ...
"... Individual cases may be sensitive particularly if living or recently deceased people are involved ..."
Extremely so ...
Personally, I DO NOT want to even proffer my individual matters in "Public"; NOT, even in the public 'eye' of OTHER Members of the Church; but, ONLY, directly through, a PRIVATE "Support" Case, with 'FamilySearch'.
Just my thoughts.
Brett
