Trying to find a birth record for my grandmother
Hi everyone. I've nearly completed my family tree but have hit a bit of a road block. I cannot locate a birth record for my grandmother. I am coming to the conclusion that her birth father was not the father who raised her and there is no record for her. This is sad for me, as I would have liked to known who my great grandparents were from her side. If there is anyone kind enough who is willing to double check their resources, I would be very grateful. I have subscriptions to Find My Past and Ancestry.com, I have been on the GRO website. I've search all of the UK, although fairly confident she was born in England. Her maiden name is Mary Winters. She was born on 20 December, 1904. She married Robert Beresford in April 1924 in Nottingham. She had 7 children from 1926 to 1939. She died in Nottingham in 1975. I have the 1939 census where she was living Nottingham at that time. Any help before I give up would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Tracy

Have you got her marriage certificate? Since she was married to Robert Beresford, I would order the certificate from GRO to get the name of her father.
I don't know if you are a beginner but I suggest you start at the beginning.

Tracy, you should definitely order the marriage certificate. We would also suggest that you enter your grandparents' names and vitals in Family Tree and then attach all the records/sources you have for them. The registration of the 1924 marriage of Mary Winters and Richard Beresford is available to attach to their profiles. Once their names are in Family Tree, other record hints will generate and possibly give you additional clues. Good luck!
P.S. From the GRO website, birth index, find the following:
WINTERS, MARY ANN Mother's Maiden Name: MCCORMICK GRO Reference: 1904 D Quarter in DUDLEY Volume 06C Page 36. Could this be your grandmother's registration of birth?

Thank you both so much. I did order the marriage certificate, apologies I should have said. I have my great grandfather's name (Joseph Winters) but they did not include the mother's details back then. I have attached everything I have to Family Tree, but nothing is clicking together. I have all the details for Mary Ann Winters (nee McCormick) and this is not her unfortunately. Thank you both so much, at least I know I have done all I can. Kind regards, Tracy
