incorrect entires added to my tree
someone changed people in my tree and then added incorrect people to it. How do I fix that problem? I was able to restore my original information that I know is correct but additional people were added that aren't correct. I've been doing ancestry for over 10 years collaboration with my cousins so I'm sure about our family names. I'm looking at the Schaefer section of my tree. It's my Dad's family.
I have found your site helpful but my full tree in on Ancestry. I've been trying to up date here weekly and find incorrect information periodically, How do you prevent someone from changing your tree without your permission? Is there a setting I can use to prevent this in the future?

You can find out how to add and correct people in your branch of the Tree.
refer to this and related articles
- Family Tree is a little different from other similar sites in that it is a single tree linked together in families, rather than a site that allows users to create and manage their own private trees. This difference means that everyone works together on the same data, allowing for the potential to connect every member of the human family.
FamilySearch is a public global Tree that allows families to work together and as such, there is no way of preventing other people from changing that part of your branch. We can follow and message the people who modify your Tree and that helps us to work together.
Hope you can continue to work on your branch and enjoy the research in collaborating with your friends and cousins.

Welcome to the Community.FamilySearch Forum. I am just another lowly User/Patron. Short Answers: You CANNOT; and, NO. Further to what 'Chai' has already proffered Here part of an old 'standby' of mine, that I have previously proffered on occasion. Most new (and, some old) Users/Patrons DO NOT understand the basic nature and premise of Family Tree of FamilySearch, when they join in.
Please let me explain. We do not have our OWN Tree in Family Tree of FamilySearch. We ONLY have Branches (ie. Ancestral" lines), that are interconnected, in this SINGLE One World Tree for all of us, that is Family Tree of FamilySearch. Family Tree of FamilySearch is NOT like On-Line Websites (eg. Ancestry_com, MyHeritage_com, or the like) and/or standalone personal (computer) programmes (eg, the OLD, now no longer supported PAF, Ancestral Quest, or the like). We DO NOT have Private/Personal Trees. And MOST Importantly We do not even own or manage and are NOT even responsible for the Deceased individuals/persons in Family Tree of FamilySearch. Family Tree of FamilySearch is built on a Open Edit Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron can Edit (ie. Add, Delete, and/or Change) ANY Deceased individual/person in Family Tree of FamilySearch. Here is a good place to start, with how things work in Family Tree of FamilySearch and other programmes as well:

I really dislike this “one global tree” concept. Someone has given me a brand new grandmother. I have no clue where this mystery lady came from. It’s EXTREMELY frustrating and this isn’t the first time totally WRONG mystery people have shown up in my tree, replacing the correct info. This is why I seldom want to use this website. Too many inaccurate relationships from people messing up my careful research. I spend countless hours verifying data and I don’t want to have to spend countless hours correcting something some stranger added or replaced in MY tree. Especially a brand new grandmother?? Really?? Like you don’t think I know my own grandmother? The marriage certificate has been posted showing Frank Schoettler married Marie Widmar. This is ridiculous.

I found more errors that correct information. It's not my family but some stranger/volunteer that has made the changes. Because they added it, I have to argue with them to get it changed. I have found a few that understood and changed the mistake. I ended up with a 4th great grandfather (actually same name as mine) that had 8 kids. Mine had 2 daughters. My Uncle Bill was replaced by an entry younger than his mother. My uncle Jim's name was changed because the catholic baptismal ctf was in latin. I luckily know most of my family.
This global tree is very flawed not by my family but by some volunteers who does check their research. I get angry every time I log on and find these errors. I look up information and leave.
