Latin Translation
Where is the best place to go to get a translation in Latin? I found the attached baptism record that I believe is a child of my great grandparents Nelson/Narcisse Constantineau and Mary Raymond. It is the second item number 28. I would like to know the name of the child in English and if it is a male or female. This record is from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Boston Records, Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell, Massachusetts. Thank you for any help.

The child, baptized on 21st March, was given the Latin male name Onesimus (this is a real name- Google it). The baptism was conditional, which means it was considered valid only if the child had not been baptized before (Catholics believe that it is highly improper to be baptized twice). If Onesimus was an infant, this probably means his health was poor and he was given an emergency baptism in case he died unbaptized (which back then in Catholic belief meant having no hope of salvation). An adult who converts may be given a conditional baptism if there is doubt about the validity of their previous baptism, since Catholics recognize some other Christian denominations' baptisms as valid.

Wow, thank you so much for the added information. I have never heard of a conditional baptism. I have researched this family extensively but have never heard of this child. This leads me to believe that maybe it was an infant was passed away. On to more research. I appreciate your help.
