Why I'm I given sources to attach when they have already been attached and all I can do is detach?

I try to work on the sources that I am given on the landing page, but many times I am given sources that the only thing I can do is detach. I was given 3 for Peter Andrew Halverson, LRPL-PMV. This seems like a waste of time! I also have been given many names that are duplicates, which someone told me to go ahead and attach anyway. This is correct? These problems make me want to stay away from the sources that I am given. 😒

This article explains "Please attach all record hints, even if they appear to be duplicates. Do not mark them as "not a match." If you look at each hint carefully, you usually discover differences." You don't want the computer to think that you are not looking for further records about this ancestor or that they don't belong with your ancestor. Keep the record hints coming. Sometimes it is good to know that a record can be found in more than one place.

You can tell a hint is from a different source if the URL is different.
