Searching land records in Adams County, Ohio
FamilySearch has digitized 85 volumes of Adams County deeds. Those volumes (1797-1900) are wonderful but volumes I have browsed have no index present. The FamilySearch catalog does not include a deed index as a separate resource for the county. I am experienced with deed research in other states and generally each volume had an index section at the start. These volumes to not. Does anyone have a suggestion on additional Adams County deed resources? Families I am researching were present in the county for much of the period covered by the records so accessing an index is critical.

@Russ Czaplewski You might want to check out the FamilySearch Research Wiki article for Adams County, Ohio Genealogy. It has a link to the Adams County Deed Indexes at USGenWeb Archives. Looks like their index covers 1797-1837. It also has a link to the Adams County Courthouse's website which might provide you with some useful information. There's also a link to Ohio Online Genealogy Records, which could prove useful for getting ideas of other places to look. Wish you luck!

Thank you for the suggestions. I will investigate further. I do see the USGenWeb Archives resource. Unfortunately it is not a comprehensive index, just a couple hundred deeds that someone submitted. There would easily be thousands to cover just the pre-Civil War era.

Here is another good place to find land records.

Thank you. I have used that site some. The information there is limited to the first transfer of title on parcels from the federal government (via the General Land Office) to the first individual owner. It does not cover the multiple transfers one would expect over decades or generations for any one piece of land.
