How to Determine the real name of a person.
Hi all, I' m an Australian from Dutch Parents. [Both now deceased] I still find it difficult to work out how to write a name of a person. I'll add this record I have which might be family, depending on how his name is. Is it Carel Gottlieb, (Seeing his father is Gottlieb) or Carel Carel (Seeing the record says his surname is Carel) or is his name even Gottlieb Carel. Or is it just saying his name is Carel then Middle name Gottlieb & Surname Carel. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Sylvia Rowe

This record originates from the Dutch National Archives as the following link shows, https://www.nationaalarchief.nl/en/research/index/nt00444/d38f39e4-c864-11e6-9d8b-00505693001d , although the URL above seems to be different.
The first name is stated to be Carel and the surname is also stated to be Carel. This is information which comes from the Dutch National Archives, so I would take that as a fact.
Whether the name Gottlieb stated to be the patronymic name is what we would call a middle name I do not know.

Hi
I have a birth record of Margie Woudstra born May 16 1899 born in Mildam Katlyk
Her death record shows her name as Makke Woudstra.
Could Makke be a nickname Margie? Her death date was January 26 1900 she was eight months old.
Thank you for any help
