I am looking for a wedding photograph of Rita May Clark (31 MAR 1916 - 27 DEC 1952) who married John Herbert Curley (8 SEP 1916 - 5 APR 2001) in 1940 at St. Mary’s Parish in Franklin, MA. I saw their framed photograph decades ago, so I know they went to a professional photographer. I am certain that the Photographer is no longer in business, does anyone know what happens to their negatives? Any suggestions on finding a photograph from 1940? FYI, I am John Herbert Curley’s only child. Thank you. Arlene Stigum

I looked into the question of tracking down old photographers to get prints from the negatives. I was told by several people in the business that most photographers throw away their stock when they close shop, but it's entirely up to the photographer. Sometimes they stick them in their attic or sell them.

If there are any photography studios in Franklin who have been in the business for many years, I would call them. Sometimes a studio closes, but the workers continue on in the industry and may be well known among the photographer community.

Have you tried the usual sources like Ancestry.com or contacting cousins etc. who John and Rita may have sent the wedding picture to? Any chance of tracking down the framed copy you saw years ago?
