Temporary Private Person (TPP) Capability
Fixing compound tangled ancestors can be very tedious, time consuming and error prone, often taking hours and even days. Currently this type of work is done on paper, spreadsheet or word processing programs, the beta system or other genealogy packages. An integrated FamilySearch feature with the capacity to create a Temporary Person in Private Space which does not impact the shared Tree would be more efficient and give the user access to fresh (current) data and FamilySearch features such as Historical Record Searches. A Temporary Person in Private Space capability could be developed as a modified version of the Living Person in Private Space feature now available.

If this never gets added to the program, you might do what I have done in the past which is to put a comment in the Life Sketch such as "This individual has severe data problems due to being confused and mixed with several other people. I am working to sort out the various people and correct their data. Please contact me before doing anything on this person's record. Please contact me if you have any information that would help in this process."

You could also sort it out in another program/site that synchronizes with family search, and then after you have made incremental changes, synchronize your changes. Two methods that are useful for keeping your own records detangled, and for creating separate temporary records for detangling purposes, which can then be updated and synchronized to family search are to use RootsMagic, and/or Ancestry.com.
