The best way to get a great answer is to the share your batch so others can see what you are seeing. Here is a link to Instructions on sharing a batch
You can also copy and paste the title of the project with batch code, like this: US, Louisiana—Voting Records, 1867–1952 [Part B][MSFR-QKZ]
Not knowing what project you are working on makes the answer a little more difficult, but, in general we follow the General Indexing Guidelines found in the Project Instructions for Alias Names. Project Instructions can be opened at any time by clicking on the last icon on the toolbar. Also Field Helps provide more information on how to index the fields. They are accessed by clicking on the purple question mark that appears when you click on a field. It is imperative to read all sections of the project instructions and familiarize yourself with the field helps for each project since they are not all the same!
Alias Names
- If alias names were included on a document, or if an individual's name was listed with various spellings on the document, include all variants, separating each with the word Or. For example, if a name was written as "Georgios (George), George Broski, George Browzowski, or George Brzozowski," index the name fields as follows:
- Given Name: Georgios Or George
- Surname: Broski Or Browzowski Or Brzozowski
So, you would do the same for the husband and wife's names, create one entry with an Or between the variant names.
I also like to recommend a great video to Newbies: Getting Started with FamilySearch Web Indexing - BYU Webinar Kathryn Grant (YouTube)
Finally, joining the group Indexing Chat would be great too. You'll get answers to your questions more quickly and will also be able to search the previous postings for similar questions and answer.
Best wishes! I hope you enjoy indexing!

Hi, I am also a newbie but have done indexing in the past...I thought that when you are indexing you are supposed to type exactly what is written on the page, except for a glaring typo. Relook at the instructions page/hints on the indexing section and see what it says. To be safe, you could do both (names) with separate entry referring to the same serial number as you suggested but first I would look to see what is written on the website instructions. Have fun 😉
