Additional marriage event options

I would like to see additional marriage event options.

With the actual marriage being the default marriage event that shows, I would like to see the following added:

Marriage bond

Marriage license

Currently, contributors are adding multiple marriage events that all say "Marriage" with multiple dates because they are different events.

Thanks!

I run into this problem all of the time in Italy where there are church marriages and civil marriages. Typically the civil marriage took place a few days, weeks, months or even years after the church marriage. I've been putting either "Church marriage" or "Civil marriage" in the Reason field, but that's a kludge. I like Sheryl's suggestion of more relationship event types.

BTW, with my current workaround, in the fairly rare case that both the church and civil marriages are on the same day in the same place, the system rejects having two marriage events with the same day and place. In that case, I have to resort to having just one event, and explaining in the Reason field that this is for both the Church and Civil marriages.

Actually, the relationship event that shows is the earliest one entered. It makes no difference whether it's entered as a marriage or one of the other choices. (The kludgy workaround for getting a divorce to show is to edit the marriage date to be after the divorce date.)

The whole relationships section of Family Tree could use some revision; it is currently rather clunky and non-intuitive. I agree that a "pre-marriage" event type would be useful, so that one could enter, say, the banns/announcements, without making it look like the wedding took place a month earlier than it actually did.

I would also like to see a marriage license event option. If the marriage license was the first source entered for a marriage event, it is misleading as the actual marriage date and place. Many times the license was procured on a date prior to marriage in a different county or place than the date/place where where the the actual marriage occurred. If a license remains as a marriage event, then the ability to select the true marriage date and place from the listed marriage events should be an option.

Rather than have those as separate relationship events, it'd be great to be able to add sub-events as additional fields in the marriage event. For example, the marriage would be the same usual field, but additional dates and places could be added to that event for supporting sub-events like the date of license, date of registration, date of marriage intention for Quaker records, the separate church and civil events mentioned earlier, etc. That way these are all covered under one "marriage" event rather than separate relationship event entries, and the primary event -- the marriage itself -- would be displayed at the top level.

Or basically just do anything to stop the system from adding marriage licenses and registrations as a Custom Event.
