Request to change from digitised microfilm format to Digital Library format for microfilms of books.
Request to change from digitised microfilm format to Digital Library format for microfilms of books.
The reason for this request is that FamilySearch Digital Library has a book viewer that has more features than that available for digitised microfilms
Please refer to a previous topic with a somewhat similar title "Book series microfilms. Request to change from digitised microfilm format to Digital Library format". https://community.familysearch.org/en/discussion/61333/book-series-microfilms-request-to-change-from-digitised-microfilm-format-to-digital-library-format
There have been concerns in the past from a FamilySearch employee that the digitised microfilm is not of sufficient quality to be used as a file for the Digital Library
However the website Internet Archive, archive.org, has many digitised microfilms which are viewable as books, which are part of the Microfilm collection https://archive.org/details/microfilm?sort=-publicdate
Also there is an article about an Internet Archive microfilm collection in "Computerworld Archives: Back From Vintage Microfilm" https://blog.archive.org/2020/12/30/computerworld-archives-back-from-vintage-microfilm/
One of the features available in the FamilySearch Digital Library is a Text option. Recently I was looking at a digitised microfilm for three volumes of a Dutch publication "Genealogische en heraldische gedenkwaardigheden betreffende Europeanen op Java" https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/65715 which is available on my home computer. I was wishing, as I don’t read Dutch, that these volumes be on the FamilySearch Digital Library, where there is a Text version, which I could copy and put into software such as Google Translate.
