NZ Electoral Rolls - Strange Indexing
Hello,
I've been reviewing the NZ Electoral Rolls for a while now, and in the past two days I've come across a couple of indexed pages that have 100 entries of "mmmm', gibberish or <blank>s entered in all the fields. There's be absolutely no attempt to index these, which is a bit strange. Either someone's cat has leapt onto the keyboard, or someone's going for a high score, I'm not sure which!.
I've fixed these two pages up, but I wonder if I should have left it now for it to be checked over... the second one, if that helps, is headed: New Zealand—Electoral Rolls, 1865–1957[MSWS-M3R]
I've attached an image so you get an idea. All the entries from 1 to 100 looked like this in various forms.
Hopefully it's nothing devious, and the Indexer can just be asked to keep their cat somewhere safer!
Thanks you,
Malcolm

I would use the new form "Reasons to Reindex Batch" and send these back for reindexing deleting the data. To access the form, do not use the standard reindexing tool. However, with the batch open, click on the help tab, click on labs, and follow the instructions to activate the new feature. I would check the two boxes: Indexer is abusive and malicious and User entered junk data. FamilySearch can sort out the details.

Here FYI is that new form: I would also check “Keep Indexed Data” in case that matters to Support’s being able to look at it. Or keep it clicked - the default is to keep.

Brilliant, thanks for that. I'll definitely give that a go if I find another one.

I don't think it will matter if you delete the indexed data since every version is saved. The FamilySearch people will be able to go back and trace the history of the batch.

Thanks, Melissa. I do recall hearing that a while ago, but wasn't sure it was still in effect.
