Closing of FHCs

Our Family History Center was closed permanently as of today. Victorville California. We served three stakes. The room we were using is being repurposed for another group. I was told that we were not the only center that would be closing that this will be church-wide.

It there a plan in place so that people will be able to access the documents and sites that are now 'only viewed at a FHC'? (Such as the agreement with Newspapers.com and the other portal sites).

We are possibly setting up a small room with four computers to be used as a "Consultant" room - to be used by the wards that access this building. Will these computers be able to be configured to access the restricted documents viewable only at a center? Other buildings within the three stake area already have a couple computers in small rooms for family history purposes, but they do not currently have access to the FHC records. Will there be any plans to allow for those to access records as well so that people can go to their closest building?

I was looking to access the FHC Technical Support (North America) (Private) page, but I get a message that it is no longer available.

Suzee Evans - I was the STFHC - FHC Leader but released today.

    Suzee,

The decision to close a family history center is up to the stake president or stake presidents who oversee it. Centers exist today to provide access to three services, where they are not easily available through other means. These services are one-on-one help, technology, and as you indicated - access to restricted records and partner sites.

Setting up a "Consultant" room will allow the stake to provide one-on-one help and access to technology, but we are currently not able to provide access to restricted records and partner sites to computers that are not in an official family history center. We are working diligently to provide access to these records and sites to this type of configuration in the future, but it will be some time before that is possible.

    Thank you!

Thank you so much for your reply. Unfortunately for our area, the building space we occupied is needed for another group. The loss for our workers and patrons to not be able to access the restricted documents will have an adverse affect but hopefully another door will open.
