Indexing "Enlisted and Officer Muster Rolls and Rosters"
I am reviewing "Enlisted and Officer Muster Rolls and Rosters" which do not have a date, yet the original indexer has put in a date. Where are they getting that date?

Also, it would be helpful to know what good it is doing if there are no dates or other information attached....only a name.
Thanks,
Heidi

To access reference images: Click on the last icon in the vertical toolbar on the image window (square with a line down the middle). The image window will split to show the Reference Images. You will now see the previous 5 images, "my batch", and the next 5 images in the right pane. The date for this image is on Reference Image -1 (Sept 30 1918).
To answer your other question, it is helpful to only index a name because we are creating a searchable index of names so people can easily find their ancestors. "Only a Name" will allow them to find the record, they will be able to scroll through the entire film and see every image if they need to do so.

The first page of the roster or roll, which has the date on it (December 31, 1918 I think - I’m on my iPhone and can’t easily check again) is on one of the earlier Reference images (maybe -3). In previous Parts of these Projects we’ve been allowed to look back to find the Date for the whole Roster or Roll of which the Batch image is a part. Technically we’re not allowed to on this one, but as a Reviewer, after checking that the date is correct, I would allow it rather than subject the batch to another review. It is indeed the date of the roll or roster that your batch is a part of.

Where would I find the earlier Reference images? Where would I look back to find the Date for the whole Roster or Roll of which the Batch image is a part.
