Indexing - try to have checkers who are native to the country /language of records.
I have task prompts to attach Census records created by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but many of my ancestor names are spelled incorrectly. I am assuming it’s because the indexer is not familiar with the language (New Zealand Maori).

Kia Ora,
The issue of poor Reviewing, which is the checking stage of the getting indexed records published, is often raised on this forum. Various ideas to combat the problems have been suggested, but so far FS has not responded or implemented any of these ideas.

Can I humbly suggest that you ask this 'Question' of yours in the 'Group' being "Indexing Chat" in the "Community.FamilySearch" Forum; so that, the members of that group can answer/assist you.
.
Here is the direct 'link' to that 'Group':
.
Indexing Chat
https://community.familysearch.org/s/group/0F93A000000LissSAC/indexing-chat
.
Description: Welcome! Come in and ask indexing and review questions, offer your help, share your stories, and find friendship.
.
There is a wealth of experience in that 'Group' (both of, "indexers"; and, "Reviewers").
.
The members of that 'Group' MAY be able to, offer some insight/perspective; or, suggestion/advice.
.
By the way, that 'Group' is a "Public" group, which may join, if you so desire.
.
I hope this helps.

Question: Are there associated, "Images", of the actual "Documents", with the "Indexed" Records?
.
IF, there is NO associated, "Images", of the actual "Documents", with the "Indexed" Records; THEN, how can you be certain that the "Name" is spelt incorrectly?
.
IF, there IS associated, "Images", of the actual "Documents", with the "Indexed" Records; THEN, if they were Records that were "Indexed" through 'FamilySearch', then there should (one would expect) be provision to "Edit" certain "Parts" of the "indexed" Record.
.
Please provide a "Link" (or, URL Address) to some of the particular Records (ie. Sources") that you are referring to; so that, we can take a look.
.
And, also ascertain, whether or not the Records (ie. "Sources") were actually "Indexed" by 'FamilySearch'; or, another website (and, subsequently used in/by 'FamilySearch') - there is a difference.
.
I am in no way imply that what you 'say' is questionable ...
.
As to, "Indexers"; and, "Reviewers" ...
[ Just like ANYONE else ... ]
.
We all make mistakes ...
None of us are perfect ...
.
I have seen far MORE "Indexed' Records (ie. "Sources") that were incorrectly "Transcribed" on OTHER "Websites" [eg. "Ancestry_com"; "FindMyPast_co_uk" (or, .com); and, the like] than I have 'seen" on Records that (ie. "Sources") were "Indexed" through 'FamilySearch'.
.
'FamilySearch' has always had a much better "Indexing" process/method than other websites.
.
But ...
That said ...
.
Again, "Transaction Errors" occur in "Indexing"; even, by those you speak/read the "Native" Language of the Record for which they are "Indexing"; and/or, "Reviewing".
.
Just my thoughts.

The program is indexed and arbitrated by unpaid volunteers. The very best way to get more native speakers is to recruit more native speakers.
The majority of indexers are English speakers. We need more non English speaking indexers! You do not have to be a member of the church to index and as long as there is access to a computer, it takes very little time to make a big difference.
