I suggest that this be added to the article:
If a new Dell computer arrives in a damaged condition, please call the number on the asset tag on the back of the computer. The numbers on the Dell computer are Church related tags, so be patient with the Dell Rep. He will have to cross reference one of these numbers to identify the Dell product and order. You should also let him know that the computer was ordered by 'The Corporation of the President' Salt Lake City, UT (not The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints or FamilySearch). You should also not delay in calling Dell, as the order may have been placed several months before you received it. It may take Dell a while to decide whether to accept the claim because of the elapsed time between the order and your call. You will also need to let the Dell Rep know that you will need the replacement computer sent to your location. If you don't, Dell will send the replacement computer to Salt Lake City.
In my case, we received several new Dell computers in late August. They were in an order made January. I had one damaged computer. I suggested that the delay was COVID related, and they accepted the claim. Because of Dell's supply issues in 2020, it took them about 6 weeks to be able to replace the computer. I did get the shipping notices, but failed to realize that they were shipping the computer to Salt Lake, until delivery day. Fortunately, the FamilySearch Help person was able to contact the shipping/receiving dock supervisor, and with the Tracking Number, he intercepted the computer and forwarded it to me.
I hope that my suggestions will help others who may have to try to return a Dell computer.
