Edward Thomas Howard Stevenson and Georgina Emma Whannell Edward (G92D-WSV) was the third marriage

They lived until 1944 in India where Edward was a member of the British Police Forces. He retired there in India and died in 1944. He was buried in India.

Georgina lived in India for at least a year or two after Edwards death. Family speculation was that she moved to France and died there.

I am having a hard time finding where and when she died.

She is my great-grandmother by her first husband, Philip Henry Brown (KWVW-WVM).

Any direction or help would be greatly appreciated.

You could look at the FIBIS Fibiwiki page French.

This is mainly about tracing the French in India, but there is also a section about tracing the British In France.

    https://wiki.fibis.org/w/French

You perhaps may be able to locate the marriage in Marseilles by looking in the online departmental Archives

    • The French Genealogy Blog (in English) which contains links to some of the online Departmental Archives

    Those for Marseilles

    • (13) Bouches-du-Rhône
    • Capital: Marseille. Online: parish and civil registers, land records, censuses from 1836-1931, old post cards, military recruitment registers from 1872 to 1912. Probably the worst AD website of them all.

If she returned to Marseilles to die, it seems the records only go to 1931.

However, there were some other areas popular with retirees from India, namesd in the Fibiwiki page, perhaps you could check there.

There is also the possibility her death PERHAPS may appear in the British overseas records, as I think on marriage to a British person her nationality would have become British. See the linked Fibiwiki page General Register Office.

There is also the pay website Filae, a " prime resource for accessing French archives and tracing French ancestors", which may be accessed for free from FamilySearch computers in FamilySearch Centres.
