    .

Due to the nature of your 'Question ...

    .

I am "Moving" this 'Question' of yours, in the 'Group' being "How to Use FamilySearch Community", in this "Community.FamilySearch" Forum, to the 'Group' being "General Questions", in the Forum; so that, the members of that group can answer/assist you.

    .

That Group is "Public", which you can join, if you wish.

    .

As, that 'Group' being "How to Use FamilySearch Community" relates to HOW to USE the "FamilySearch.Community" Forum", rather than for research help/assistance.

    .

There is usually NO need to Upload a GEDCOM File into "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

Upload a GEDCOM File in the "Genealogies" Part of 'FamilySearch', that is fine; but, NOT into "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

    In your case ...

    In the FIRST instance ...

    .

You would have INITIALLY Upload a GEDCOM File in the "Genealogies" Part of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

Here is where the GEDCOM File will be located, if it is "Uploaded" into the "Genealogies" Part of 'FamilySearch':

    .

    https://www.familysearch.org/tree/import/files

    .

That URL is unique/specific to each individual User/Patron.

    .

IF, the GEDCOM File is NOT "Uploaded" there; THEN. please advise.

    .

    Please be aware that ...

    .

GEDCOM Files that you 'upload' to the "Genealogies" Part of 'FamilySearch' are 'Static'; that is to say that:

    (1) they are NOT part of "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; and,

    (2) they are NOT connected/linked together; and.

    (3) they CANNOT be "Edited" (ie. "Changed"); and,

    (4) they can ONLY be "Deleted"; and, replaced by an updated version.

    .

Basically, GEDCOM Files that you 'upload' to the "Genealogies" Part of 'FamilySearch' are for "Research" purposes ONLY - they can just be 'seen', by ALL Users/Patrons - NOTNING else.

    .

    More to follow ...

    .

As you use the 'Word' of "Compare" ...

    .

IF, you went FURTHER with the Upload a GEDCOM File, beyond the "Genealogies" Part of 'FamilySearch'; THEN, you MAY have UPLOADED the GEDCOM File into "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

    That is another matter ...

    .

    As an aside ...

    .

Most new (and, some old) Users/Patrons DO NOT understand the basic nature and premise of "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', when they join in.

    .

    Please let me explain ...

    .

We do not have our OWN "Tree" in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

We ONLY have "Branches" (ie. Ancestral" lines), that are interconnected, in this SINGLE "One" World "Tree", for all of us, that is "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is NOT like 'On-Line' "Websites" (eg. "Ancestry_com"; or "MyHeritage_com"; or, the like); and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes (eg, the OLD, now no longer supported, "PAF"; or, "Ancestral Quest"; or, the like).

    .

We DO NOT have "Private"/"Personal" 'Trees' in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' like other 'On-Line' "Websites"; and/or, 'standalone' personal (computer) programmes.

    .

We do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, the "Deceased" individuals/persons in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

And, in fact, we do not even, own; or, manage; and, are NOT even responsible for, our OWN "Deceased" Ancestors in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

"Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch' is built on a "Open Edit" Platform - hence, why any registered User/Patron can "Edit" (ie. Add, Delete; and/or, Change) ANY "Deceased" individual/person in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    Hi Brett,

I scrolled past 'search' to 'submit your tree' then once upload completed clicked 'compare' and I am where I am with only a couple of generations showing.

    .

IF, you went FURTHER with the Upload a GEDCOM File, beyond the "Genealogies" Part of 'FamilySearch'; and, UPLOADED the GEDCOM File into "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'; THEN, ...

    .

    Question:

Have you "Searched" (ie."Find") "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch', for the others?

    .

To 'see' if ANY of the OTHERS, beyond my grandparents, are in "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'.

    .

They could be there; but, possibly, as "Unconnected" individuals/persons.

    .

Uploading a GEDCOM File into 'FamilySearch' DOES NOT upload ANY "Living" individuals/persons from the GEDCOM File.

    .

Take a look, let us know.

    Richard

    So, WHERE ...

▬ the "Genealogies" Part of 'FamilySearch'?

▬ or, "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch'?
