nobody can help me? I have written, Emailed, phoned, etc, and because I can't seem to write, even w
down Providence Hospital, which was located on the West Grand BLVD in Detroit. I believe the address was 1500. I read someplace that it was torn down in the 1970's. I just would like to know if any birth and/or death records of the Maternity Ward for the period July-August 1938 exi8st and are stored or filed some place. I am not a rich guy but know that it might cost. I am willing to a certain amount. I am living on a fixed income. My name is Peter M. Olsen, DOB August 16, 1938(?). My real mother's name is unknown. She was Jewish, possibly from Nazi German.
I have no documents, and dreamt that after she gave birth to me, she died? Please help!!!!!

Here are a couple of sources within the state of Michigan; typically birth, marriage and death records are archived with a department of "vital statistics/vital records". These links will give you further information regarding accessing those records. https://www.michigan.gov/libraryofmichigan/0,9327,7-381-88854_89996_90000-467352--,00.html
https://www.genealogybranches.com/michigan.html
https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Michigan_Vital_Records
One of these should give you access to a source of your desired record.
Good luck,
Clark

@PeterOlsen4 PeterOlsen4 - I suspect you are trying to locate your birth parents - but whether or not this is what I found at the avvo.com legal advice site online: Hospitals are generally required to keep birth information for 6 years. The OB needs to keep his/her records for 18 years. So in either case you are probably out of luck.
There is a nice short article on the original hospital: https://historicdetroit.org/buildings/house-of-providence
The hospital moved in 1965 and is today called Ascension Providence Hospital - Southfield Campus (Address: 16001 W Nine Mile Rd, Southfield, MI 48075 Phone: (248) 849-3000) You can try contacting them but it will be a long shot at best.
Good luck.

Thank you for the info. What I will never understand is that they are only required to keep such birth/death records for so many years. l don't people get answers to ancestors who pass away in a hospital further back than 6 or 18 years. Do they have to rely on what is written on the grave stone? Where does Dr. Louis Gates Jr and his team get all the answers they get. I just can't believe that such birth/death records are just tossed after such a short time. I will now follow your suggestions. I just read the historic detroit piece. Everything i8n that short report I already read about. My only contention is that the records that might help me are someplace. I know everything in this country pertaining to history is destroyed almost immediately. Take a look at You Tube and see how stupid our young people are today. They don't know how many stars are on 'Old Glory' and how many stripes there are and what they stand for. Boy, am I glad that I am just drifting at my age 82!
