Typically, people working in the FSFT are all collecting information on their own ancestors and relatives. If you are related to John or his wife, you can upload a scan of the letter to your Memories collection in your FS account. From there it can be linked to any number of person records in the FSFT that you like (i.e., you can link it to both John, his wife, and anyone else mentioned in it).
If you are not related to John or his wife, you can still do this, but it's not a great idea to just create a single record with very little data in it that is not attached to any other records in the FSFT as it will be very hard to find and be used by others in building the tree.
But if you would like to go ahead and do this with unrelated persons, then it is a very good idea to research them and put as much information into those records as you can. Relationships are really valuable here. Show any couple relationships or parent child relationships that you can find (e.g., make sure both john and his wife are recorded and linked as a "Couple" in the database). Make sure that their record is not already in the tree before creating new PIDs. By doing this, it makes the search engines that run "behind the scenes" capable of finding them much easier.

There is a fair chance that there is a record already in FS FT for John Allen - we just need to have enough info to be able to positively identify him so you could link the item to his existing record. Thats why any addiitonal facts woudl be very helpful.
