Funeral Customs?
Saw this obit on a fb group I follow, I noticed at the end it listed the “flower girls” after the pall bearers ... I’ve never heard of flower girls for a funeral? Was/is that a common practice? What was/is the duty of flower girls? Did/does only certain religions follow this practice?

Flower girls may be a regional custom; my mother & aunts told of being flower girls at funerals in Alabama in the 1940s. They said in usually teenage relatives were chosen. The services they participated in were various Protestant Christian religions.
I have a picture showing a relative’s coffin being carried out of a home, with honorary pallbearers & flower girls holding bouquets flanking the sidewalk.
About 10 years ago I accompanied my mother to a funeral at the church my mother’s family attended. Flower girls were part of the service, but that is my only personal experience with the custom, even at that same church.
Google says flower girls are more common in African-American funerals, however my family is predominantly white.

I dont think its reflective of any specifc religious sect
I think it was a way to make the girls feel involved - when the boys had the assignment of "pall bearers"
