How to correct an error in the spelling of my mothers name in her sister's records.

Put one spelling in the Name section and the other under Other Information as an Alternate Name. The married name should not be in the Name section but can be entered at an Alternate Name. Sorry if you know all this already.
I'm assuming the wrong spelling has a source attached. If not, then I would just change it to the spelling you are familiar with.

I noticed that you responded (ie. "Commented") in a post (ie. "Idea") in the (New) "IDEAS" "Feedback' Forum, that being:

in relation to this 'Question'.
.
In part; as, I responded to the 'Poster' of the aforementioned ...
.
The answer to your 'Question' depends on WHAT "Part" of 'FamilySearch' your are referring to ...
.
There are various "Parts" to "FamilySearch':
[ Principally; but, NOT limited to ... ]
▬ Records
▬ Family Tree
▬ Genealogies
▬ Indexing
.
And, it appears that you could be referring to correcting errors in, EITHER, the "Records" (including: "Indexing"); and/or, "Family Tree", parts of 'FamilySearch'.
.
IF, you want to CORRECT (perceived) "Errors" in the "Details" (including: "Couple"; and, "Parent-Child", Relationships) of/for "Deceased" individuals/persons, in the "Family Tree" part; THEN, ANY "Registered" User/Patron CAN do that.
.
Whereas ...
.
IF, you want to CORRECT (perceived) "Errors" in the ("Indexed") "Records", in "Records" part, which can become the "Sources" attached to individuals/persons, in "Family Tree"; THEN, that is another matter.
.
Some "Fields", of ("Indexed") "Records", being "Sources", can be "Edited" (even while attaching to individuals/persons in "Family Tree"); but, generally, only certain ones, that are by 'FamilySearch'.
.
Whereas, other ("Indexed") "Records" being "Sources", CANNOT be "Edited"; because, they are from other Websites.
.
So ...
That said ...
.
Question: WHERE are the ERROR that you perceive, the "Records" (including: "Indexing"); and/or, "Family Tree", parts of 'FamilySearch'?
.
Please advise.
.
That way we can better answer and help you.

First, I liked the old format where you could ask a question and a Family History Missionary could help you directly. Not all of us are computer savey.
Now for my problem. The name of my Great Grandmother Frances Newell Taylor Walton Smith is spelled Frances on one page and Francis and Francis on another. How do I get them all to be the same?

This format is a bit of a change. If you need direct help, please consider calling your local Family History Consultant.
The biggest problem with this new format is that it is hard to conduct conversations by what is basically a string of e-mails. When talking directly one can ask a question, the other person can ask for clarification, the first can restate the question and add clarification, the other person can ask for more details, and continue in that pattern, then after half an hour or so, the other person can answer the question. That is just harder here.
So on to your problem. You are reporting that on one page your g-g-m's name is Frances. What page is that? Where is it? Can you post a link to it if you are not sure how to describe where it is?
Then on another page it is spelled as Francis twice, or is that on two other pages? Where is that other page or pages?
What was her name at birth? Do you have any records that show how her parents first spelled her name? Was it Frances Newell or Francis Newell? I'm making an assumption here that was her married name and she was married three times. Please excuse me if that is not correct.
The method for correcting the spelling of names is very different depending on if you are seeing these on multiple Family Tree pages, in one of the sections under Genealogies, in one of the many historical records collections such as census records.
Please add as much information as you can to clarify what you are seeing and where you are seeing it so someone can answer your question.
