    Question:

WHAT is it that you want to "Delete", from "Family Tree" of 'FamilySearch?

[ eg. Individual/Person; Relationship; Vitals Details; Source, etc ... ]

Deleting should be used a little as possible; disconnecting or merging is the better way to handle these situations. However, I created a person that turned out to be an orphanage and not a mother. There was nothing to do but delete the entry by going to the right hand side menu, Tools - Delete Person.

    Hello

In my case, a person has added a fifth sibling to my grandparents which is incorrect. I've been in contact with the author of the entry who admits that the entry was made based on tenuous information. A wife was also added with no maiden name; in addition, there's no continuation of the line to said sibling nor any ancestral information to the wife.

I'm wishing to delete the information and I think I've found a way that breaks the link of the said sibling to the parents.

This leads to maybe a silly question, but in general in deleting an entry is it possible to save it elsewhere in case the erroneous data finally becomes of use. Hope that makes sense 😙. Second part of the question, in breaking the link between a sibling and the parents does that named sibling just disappear or does it still remain within Familysearch to be continued by others at a later date.

    Kind regards

In regard to the latest post. If you break the relationship between the child and parents - it just disconnects the relationship. The actual child record remains in Family Tree and may be connected to spouse and children. You can use Find to locate the record and if another record appears with similar dates etc the record would be indicated as a possible duplicate. There is no need to do any saving, it will just remain floating until someone either appropriately links it to correct parents or creates a duplicate and this causes the duplicate records to be merged.

Deletion is normally not reasonable because the record probably represents a real person and what is wrong is the family it has been linked to - Thus only very few situations allow record deletion. Hopefully this answers your questions.

I will like to delete the wife of a parent or switch it to the mother of the father. I rushed to add a wife of a parent, but instead I skipped a generation and added the mom instead. Now the grandmother shows twice in the tree!

i need to delete the francis LaPlante being the father of himself. Francis Felix Laplant is the correct

    father, married to

Francis'mother, Julia Vertz. These are my grandparents and my great grandparents. Please see what can be done.

As you can see, the man cannot be his own father.

You will need to delete the relationship of the incorrect father. Once you have deleted the incorrect father you can add the correct name

Here is the link explaining how to delete incorrect relationships. https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/how-do-i-correct-parent-child-relationships-in-family-tree.

I just had a look at some of my ancestors on here, and I am very annoyed to see that the tree owner has got my grandmother's father branch completely wrong.

@JBAGE, you appear to have missed a very important fact: FamilySearch's Family Tree is a collaborative open-edit tree. There is no "tree owner", and if something is incorrect, you can correct it yourself.
