Should I try to get rid of the duplicate information? If so, how do I do that?

Yes it's a good idea to merge the duplicated redord.

Her is a video link who teach us how to do it:

You will see that the "reason for merge box has been change but it's easy to use.

    Hoping that it's helpfull

carol.s.johnson - I weed out redundant data from the "Other Information" section, too. For the record you want to jettison, click on "Edit" and the record form opens up. In the lower right hand corner, there is "Delete". Click that. You will be asked why you want to delete the redundancy and I (perhaps inelegantly) type in "Redundant".

There are mixed opinions on this action among Family Tree users. For example, some believe an Alternate Name that is identical to the one on the main / person page should be left. FamilySearch ran a routine some time ago to remove this duplicate detail, however - though this process appears to have been abandoned.

I would follow the advice of RoseyGlow and delete any duplicate / meaningless inputs, but do add a reason statement for your action(s).
