Places in Sources
I have been 'fixing place names' and just realized that they are probably wrong because of the sources that are attached. If the programming was changed so we can standardize the place name as we are adding sources that would stop a lot of the incorrect place names from being added to the record.

The best approach is probably to go to person page and check on the standardization AFTER the source has been added. Many of the names that are carried over to the "Other" section will almost certainly need to be changed (if you don't want to see those red warning signs on the page), as they will be incomplete (e.g. Residence - "High Street"). Only the Vitals ones concern me, but remember a place name might APPEAR to be correct, but a totally wrong name might be hidden beneath the one being displayed.
For example some of my displayed names appear (correctly) as being for locations in England, but when I go the modify them slightly I find they have been standardized as places in the USA or elsewhere. The current process certainly leaves you with a false sense of security about the standardization errors that are hidden away from the main page, but don't show up as errors as they are names on the FamilySearch Standards list.
In summary, no standardizing process is going to be perfect, so just click on "Edit" after adding anything from a source to make sure the name is as it should be.

FYI
.
We ALREADY DO have the ability to "Edit" (including: 'Place') SOME "Indexed" Records (ie. "Sources") that ,we are attaching; and/or, are attached ...
.
But ...
That said ...
.
We DO NOT have the ability to "Edit" ALL "Indexed" Records (ie. "Sources") that, we are attaching; and/or, are attached ... just some.
.
Here are some "Knowledge Articles" in 'FamilySearch':
.
How do I fix indexing or transcription errors in historical records?
.
Why can't I fix indexing or transcription errors?
https://www.familysearch.org/help/helpcenter/article/why-cant-i-fix-indexing-or-transcription-errors
.
How do I edit or delete a correction that I made to an indexed historical record?
.
Can I correct indexing errors that affect all or most of a collection?
.
Now ...
That said ...
.
Hopefully, we WILL be able to "Correct" MORE "Indexed" Records (ie. "Sources") that, we are attaching; and/or, are attached ... in the future ... just not now ...
.
I know that this does not help; but, I hope this gives you some perspective ...

Interesting to read Brett's response to this issue, compared to mine! My understanding was that you were talking about changing / standardizing place names during the source linking process, whereas Brett has taken your query to relate directly to fixing the actual indexed records / sources!
Perhaps it is always best to expand just a little on the precise problem being referred to (including screenshots if possible) so there is less chance of us misunderstanding.
