Change the Detail view on the source page so that it actually shows the details
Currently if you go to the Sources for an individual and click on Detail view, you only get part of the details, which isn't at all helpful. The point of being able to turn on the Detail view is to save clicks, but it doesn't save any clicks at all because I still have to click on Show the indexed information on every source individually to see the full details of a source. The summary information is pretty much useless most of the time, the indexed information is also needed. Thanks!

Yes, I'm finding more and more that I need to copy the URL at some point in the proceedings, open up a new tab and paste the URL into that tab to see the Historical Record. Why does FS make it so difficult (maybe more so recently???) to see the Historical Record? It's as if someone's decided, "Nah, you don't want to do that..." Slightly cynical maybe, but it does seem as if it's not recognised as something anyone would want to do.

The operation of that Details switch appears inconsistent. I don't like having my entire list of (as much as 70) sources all open at the same time. makes it very difficult to move around the list when looking for things. Anytime I click on a source, the full page seems to open even with the Details switch turned off. So the bottom line is leave the Detail View turned off. Whenever you click on a source Title, it will open with everything there. And when you click the title again, it will collapse and you will be able to quickly go to find another source in the list.
The Detail View has never been of much value to me. It's clunky and makes searching of large source lists near impossible. It can be done much easier by just selecting the titles that you want to look at. That's just MY opinion on it.
It's also important to realize that the "sources" attached in a person's source list are not really sources at all. They are Citation to sources. So when you have a source that is an index you wind up with THREE distinct entities:
- The citation to the index data (i.e., the "thing" that is actually attached to the source list)
- The indexed data in the index file taken from some paper or digital image
- The image source that the indexed data was taken from
FS has conveniently included all three of these items together in the past which is really great. Unfortunately this confuses some people as to what the actual "source" really is.
The "thing" that is attached to the source list is the Citation ONLY. That's what you see when you select the "View" link on the source. The Citation does NOT contain digital data and it does NOT contain images. It is a pointer to those things. Those things are in other parts of the digital archives. So now with Details on and Indexed Information "Hide" the display is just the Citation information which makes it REDUNDANT with the "View" selection now.
