I was going to suggest the straightforward solution of merging the two IDs yourself. However, this process needs to be undertaken with great care, so if you have no previous experience in doing this, either find an article that explains the procedure in detail or leave this action for another user to perform.0 -

We all share an active interest in using the resources of this site and as users, we have various levels of knowledge and experience and do our best to help each other with concerns, issues, and/or questions.
FamilySearch leaves editing the massive tree up to us users. We are often, as your post proves, more familiar with the situation that someone who is not related to the person or family.
There is a FamilySearch approved training guide at http://thefhguide.com/ called The Family History Guide, which not only contains instructions, but also examples for you to try. Also, by using the same records on the FamilySearch beta site at https://beta.familysearch.org/, you can play around with the merge without causing any damage to the production site. You use the same credentials you use with the production site for the beta site. The beta site is populated from the production site once or twice a year, so the problem should be the same on the beta site as that which you have found on FamilySearch.org.
After you complete the merge and properly set the names where they belong (birth name in Vitals; all other variations, including his "changed" name, as Also Know As under Alternate names in the "Other" section, be sure to provide sources for the information. The more sources you can provide, the better.0 -
