A merge of a new created person, into an older created person, only saved the older created persons

Still working on this person, later I found a duplicate. Thinking that if I add the newer created person into the older created person it would preserve her whole "Latest Changes" or change log history. How wrong I was! After I had merged her into the older created person I noticed that it did not have any of the "Memories" articles showing in her change log. I then noticed it only had the change log history of the older created person and nothing showing of my newly created person in the change log history. I then decided to restore the newer created person and merged the older created person into the newer created person. I am now showing all the "Memories" articles in her "Latest Changes" or change log history.
The (merging) process should save both log histories together, instead of one change log history.
Hit on "Show All" just above "Tools" on the "Details" page.
Here is the newer Clara Hammond L6MZ-4VT with the "Memories" I added, note her change log history only goes back to November 9, 2013.

Here is the older Clara LDJM-J36 which is now merged into the Clara Hammond above. Note her change log history goes back to July 24, 2013. Whey is this not included in the merging process?

Jeff Wiseman said: Don,
Change histories are NOT merged.
A change history is only for a single given PID. It will only show the changes specifically made to that PID. In a merge, there are two PIDs each with their own change history to start with. Then after the merge there are STILL two PIDs, each with their own change history, but one of the PIDs is now "deleted" (i.e., archived).
The change history information is still there for the deleted PID, but I think they've hidden it now. The new person that you created with their change history was deleted (i.e., actually it was "archived") during the merge. To see that information you would normally have just gone to that deleted record and you could view the change history of that person up until the time their record was deleted via the merge.
The change history is all still there in the database in case you have to unmerge or restore that PID, but for some reason it (like several other things) is now being hidden from view and you can no longer see it.
It's crazy, but now you have to actually restore a deleted record in order to see its change history. You can then re-delete it again once you've seen what you need.0 -
Gordon Collett said: You certainly do not need to restore a deleted record to see the archived person's change log.
To take Don's example:
Start on the surviving person's page:
Click on Show All under Latest Changes then scroll down to the merge:
Click on the deleted individual's name and go to her page then again scroll down to Latest Changes:
Again click on Show All to see the complete change log for the delete/archived individual:
This is how viewing the change log for the person deleted in a merge has always worked.0 -
Don M Thomas said: Because I am complaining about the "Latest Changes" or change log, here is another gripe. I could understand my name not showing if we were talking about 2012, but my name is not showing in the change log for 2016. It is my writing, but my name is not associated with my writing. It only gives the date July 23, 2016. All the way through this change log it gives dates but no names.

SOMETHING IS WRONG! I just went into this change history again and it was showing names on a lot of the people. Looking at it, the names just seem to disappear. My July 23, 2016 entry is not showing my name though.

Don M Thomas said: The engineers need to change it then, to where both change log histories are combined when merged together, and separated when restoring a PID. This is one area of FamilySearch that really needs updating and money spent in developing new ideas. Thanks for your comment Jeff.0

Gordon Collett said: Try again. When I look your name is all over the place. I have seen names vanish as you describe before, however. I think it is just server glitchiness and occasionally the page just doesn't get around to loading completely.0

Jeff Wiseman said: Thanks for correcting me on that. I knew that there had been changes a while back and not all information that is stored with the deleted record are made visible. Somewhere I got the impression that the change history was part of that (maybe it was removed and then replaced later? Changes happen so quick here it's hard to keep up)0
