New Merge Interface

When I enter text into the Reason for the Merge box it takes about a minute for the text to appear and the Finish Merge button to be active. If I try to correct a mistake in the text the lag is bothersome. When I click on the Finish Merge button, nothing appears to happen. It takes on the order of a minute to see anything happening on the screen and two minutes to get back to the profile. It is a bit annoying.
I tried deleting the cache and Family Search cookies in my default browser, Chrome. It did not help much. Then I tried the Edge browser. It also had a lag issue that may have been a little worse. The Family Search web pages also seemed to load more slowly. I then tried Firefox. That also showed some lag but significantly less than the other two browsers. It also seemed to load the Family Search pages faster. Perhaps it is an issue with the graphics on my work station. It is a bit out of date and I cannot update the driver. I am also on wifi across the house from the router. I checked the speed and it was 54 Mbps download and only 4.4 Mbps upload.
I tried a merge on a relatively new laptop at the wifi router and with the chrome browser. There was no lag issue. I checked the speed on the laptop and it was 91 Mbps download and 9 Mbps upload. So it looks like it is a combination of older computer and internet speed.
It would be good to have a simpler interface for slower systems. I think adding graphical interfaces is slowing things down.

Welcome to the FamilySearch forum at GetSatisfaction.com. Familysearch employees do read these posts although they frequently will not respond.
Your report is good. I believe that I've seen other folks with the same experience. Because none of the other "Reason for..." boxes anywhere else in the system have this problem, it is definitely something that FS should look at. Hopefully this will get on their list when they read this topic.
By the way, there IS a simpler interface for slower systems that others might suggest. I forget how to get to it, but it is very handicapped in what you can do. In fact, I don't even think that it supports merges at all.
I tried to find it but finding things via the Help center can be difficult to impossible at times :-(0 -

Is this what you were looking for ... Family Tree Lite
What is Family Tree Lite?

Jeff Wiseman said: Yea, that's it. How do you find it?0

Brett said: Just entered the word ... "Lite" ... nothing else ... just the 'term' I remembered0

Jeff Wiseman said: Ah! So if you never had seen it before and remembered part of the name, you NEVER would have found it.0

Brett said: I see it all the time when the INTERNET slows momentarily.
Bottom Left of the screen in that "Black" Rectangle.
Luckily it is not too frequent.0 -
Hobart Shackford said: I checked out Family Tree Lite and it is too restrictive. You cannot do anything with sources. I guess I will have to live with what is available on the full web version or reconfigure my home network.0

Jeff Wiseman said: Hobart,
I knew that the Family Tree Lite is so simple that it's almost useless--especially when dealing with merges and sources. I just suspected that someone might suggest it to you, but I knew it would not be suitable for what you (and many others) are trying to accomplish here.
Don't give up hope yet. Others are seeing this lag associated with the new merge process as well. See Christine's reply to the topic at:

Hers is the third main reply in that thread (note that there is a difference between "Replys" and "Comments" on this forum). Hopefully someone from FS will see the reports of this problem so that it can be addressed0
