Logged in Indicator

I choose not to "stay logged in for 2 weeks" and often when I come back to the computer I don't think to verify that I am still logged in. I just typed a long message to someone, and it wasn't until I tried to send that the site took me back to the log in screen, and of course, everything I had entered was gone.

Juli said: The "stay logged in" box would not necessarily have saved your work: what it actually means is "keep using these login credentials for two weeks". It still logs you out after a short period of inactivity, so you should _always_ have a short-term backup of _all_ text that you don't want to re-type. It's best to get in the habit of writing things offline in a text editor and then copying and pasting into FS. Another way to get that short-term backup is to select all (ctrl-A), copy (ctrl-C), and _then_ click Submit or OK or whatever the "commit" button is labeled. That way, if it decides that you spent too long writing, you have the text on your clipboard. (It's not as secure as an autosaved text file, like you'd get with Notepad++ or similar, but it'll serve the purpose most of the time.)0

It took me a long time to realise that digitised microfilms which would show a camera icon if logged in (I am a non church member) i.e. viewable on my home computer if logged in, show, if not logged in either no icon at all, or a microfilm icon meaning only viewable as a microfilm.
I think this is really confusing, and although it is reasonable to be signed in to view records, I think it shows a VERY UNHELPFUL and secretive attitude to display different catalog details depending whether you are signed in or not, especially when you think you ARE signed in.0 -
