Paul said: Given the number of topics being raised on this forum requesting temporarily freeing access to "restricted" records on the FamilySearch website, wouldn't it be a good idea for a representative of the organisation to add a Blog item explaining the impracticality of such suggestions?

A statement might also be added in a banner elsewhere on the website pages.

What is the problem in following the advice of A van Helsdingen at https://getsatisfaction.com/familysea... and publicising the position more widely, rather than just on this forum?

These are rather informal channels but it was felt a quick response in these informal mediums would be better than waiting for more formal communications. There are a number of release requirements that require translation to multiple languages, for things like banners in the product and blog. So the decision to err on the side of immediacy to this community.

But because of the limitted target, that can't be the end of the story.

there is NO WORDING about closure on the page
Find a Family History Center and FamilySearch Affiliate Libraries
    https://www.familysearch.org/help/fhc...

As I understand the situation ALL Family History Centres are closed, world wide. Is this correct? Although in some countries they may be closed due to Government requirements in those countries, if FamilySearch has closed ALL Centres, surely as a minimum requirement this should be advised to potential visitors to those Centres.

Totally agree with A van Helsdingen's comments "If FS can write an article on the blog "33 Productive Things You Can Do at Home", which deals with several non-genealogical topics, they should also be able to write an article that explains what is happening with access to restricted records on the FS website (a core part of their services) during this time"

Not a bad idea about such a "Banner" on the 'Home'/'Landing' page/screen of:

Find a Family History Center and FamilySearch Affiliate Libraries
    https://www.familysearch.org/help/fhcenters/locations/

Our "Family History Centre" (FHC) was proactive.

We immediately sort the direction of our Stake President; as, FHCs were NOT specifically mentioned in Communications from the Church; and, do not fit the norm with regard to Church "Meetings"/"Activities".

His wish/preference, at the time, was the (Stake) FHC should TEMPORARILY "Close"; and, remain so 'Until further Notice'. Which we did; well before, any 'forced' closures; as, is the case throughout the world now.

Two (x2) things that we did ALSO did, was immediately:

    (1) Updated the "FamilySearch" 'Wiki' page/screen for our FHC, with a "Banner" across the 'Top', with regard to the "Closure"; and, also,

    (2) Updated the "Hours" of Operation of the FHC, in 'CDOL', with with regard to the "Closure"; so that, that would be reflected in:
Find a Family History Center and FamilySearch Affiliate Libraries
    https://www.familysearch.org/help/fhcenters/locations/

We checked the next day; as, it can take 'overnight' to transfer to "FamilySearch"; and, the "Closure" Notice was there ...
