Providing a title might be of help. There might be a genuine mistake involved here and/or the book available to view elsewhere.
Also, there is plenty of material (apart from books) that has been digitised and appears in the Catalog, but still can't be viewed online (by anybody).
The statement might initially seem a bit silly, but I suppose the missing proviso is "(cannot be viewed online) AT THIS TIME". All current restrictions must be liable to change at a future date.
Regardless, I guess the real answer might be that cataloging does not have to apply only to items that are openly available.0 -

I myself had given to the Family History Library books that I had compiled, and one of them being DOCUMENTATION HISTORY, Volume I., and I see where it states these books, like Jerry Rogers book, show, "Due to copyright restrictions, this book cannot be viewed online." Is it because my books were never copyrighted? The books were nothing more than mostly census records, and the census records showing the documentation for the family connections.

Reason for this Feedback was to know where my books are now housed and also to know where I could go if I want to view them again. I know that at one time the Family History Library used to house them, (the books), on the first & second floor of the Family History Library, but the books are no longer seen in the Family History Library.0 -

The family genealogies books have since been restored to shelves, 3rd floor. The Library took advantage of the closure to do a lot of changes that had to be done.0 -
Don M Thomas said: W David Samuelsen, I have been to the 3rd floor of the Family History Library, (United States Section), and they are mostly periodicals, State & County & City Cemeteries, State & County & City Histories, and different County Genealogical & Historical Societies, and books of Marriages and other (etc) things of the different Counties, Boroughs or Parishes of the United States.
Oh, I see now where you state, "The Library took advantage of the closure to do a lot of changes that had to be done." - Thanks - W David Samuelsen.0 -
Along with this question, I would appreciate it if in the initial return for a search, the online page could indicate that a book is under copyright and not viewable. To have a result that is promising, clicking the VIEW button, only to get the "Due to copyright" message is very frustrating. It would be much nicer to have that information on the first screen where the VIEW button is located. Not sure if this is the right place to post a suggestion, but hope it gets to the right folks at FamilySearch.

If you are talking about results from searching the Family Search Digital Library https://www.familysearch.org/library/books/ when you have the Search results, there are some filters on the left hand side of the webpage under "Refine your search" including Access level. If you only want results you where you are able to read the book , from the category Access Level then select Public.
