R Greg Leininger said: For programming engineers:
Often, when linking a new source to a person, it provides extra info that needs to be added but it takes two steps when just one step would be nice.
For example you have a person who was born in 1880 in Texas, documented by a specific census.
NOW you get another census that says the person was born in Dallas, Texas. When you link that census, it links the census info to that person's profile and you can see he was born in Dallas, TX when you open up the Birth button, but it still only shows Texas as place of birth, making you click on "Edit" Birth button to add in Dallas.

It would be nice if the system automatically updated that, or in the right column, allowed you to modify birth location from "Texas" to Dallas, Texas."
Is that possible for the engineers to create?

Tom Huber said: Current source linker does not display enough information from the existing record to be able to determine if the existing information is valid or not. At the present time, editing the existing record is not possible when using the source linker.

I don't know, but believe that at some future time, we'll have enough information available during the source linking process to be able to update the existing information.

Paul said: I've always argued against this idea. It is far better to weigh-up the evidence and make your inputs directly on the person page. Your example is one I have experienced - e.g. birthplace "Yorkshire" in one census source and "Crathorne, Yorkshire" in a source later found. But what about those instances when, say, three different places names are found in three different census sources? I find it best to add the sources, then evaluable / find the evidence on which (of the alternatives) is correct before making a manual input.
