It would be nice to be able to upload a whole family tree from another source to save having to re-d

Jordi Kloosterboer said: If you want to put your family tree on the real family tree, you should go through it one by one because then you won't create a bunch of duplicates in the process. And, you will be able to find the correct sources you used to find your info earlier and attach to the new record.0

Doing it one at a time you will probably find out that a lot of your family is already in the FamilySearch "Family Tree." Could be wrong, but I bet some are.0 -
Tom Huber said: First, welcome to the community-powered public feedback forum for FamilySearch. FamilySearch personnel read every discussion thread and may or may not respond as their time permits. We all share an active interest in using the resources of this site and as users, we have various levels of knowledge and experience and do our best to help each other with concerns, issues, and/or questions.
Second, there are no individual trees involved with the massive FamilySearch FamilyTree. It is all one tree with over 1.2 Billion persons currently in it. I've seen numbers as high as now over 1.4 Billion, but the last official word (from FamilySearch representatives) was the 1.2 Billion persons from several years ago.
Third,, if you have a GEDCOM of your own tree, you can upload it to the Genealogies section of the site, which are read-only trees contributed over the years. Go to Search ... Genealogies and close to the bottom of the search page is a button to contribute your own tree. Once uploaded, please do not go through the compare process as that is somewhat flawed by old "clunky" software.
Fourth, privacy laws prohibit posting any living persons in the massive tree. Any that you contribute are stored in your "private space" where only you can see them. For the most part, they should be limited to "place markers" between you and your deceased ancestral lines. Once you start working with your deceased relatives, it is likely that you will find they are already in the massive tree. The information may not match yours, but the open edit nature of the massive tree allows anyone, including yourself to make changes to the information. Just be sure to have valid sources for any changes you do make and be sure to read any and all reason statements that may be included with the information.0 -

The nature of your comment implies that you do not understand that there are no privately owned/controlled trees in the single, shared FamilySearch FamilyTree database. It is totally different from places like Ancestry or PC based tools where only you have control over your private trees.
Also, as already pointed out, you will likely discover that most of what you have in your tree has already been recorded in FSFT and is also likely to be far more accurate since those records are accessible and maintained by EVERYONE with an account in FS.
The only control you have over your ancestor's and relative's records in the FSFT is to accurately record all sources and notes that provide proof/evidence for the vital conclusions (i.e., dates/locations etc.) in the person records. That way others will normally see that there is no reason to change them.
In FS, your account and "tree" information will be structured like this:
So chances are great that you will not have to "Re-do" the whole thing. At most you might need to add a couple of names and maybe add a vital or two that is missing. But in FSFT, a lot more than just the tree you already have recorded elsewhere will already be there.0
