Unification of family trees.

It would also be illegal in many countries to allow information on living persons to be made publicly available. FS would be subject to many lawsuits. What if one of your near uncles doesn't want all his birth details visible to all of his 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th cousins in his tree? How could he prevent that from happening?

Welcome to the feedback forum for FamilySearch. FS employees read all of the postings here but may not always respond. I am not an employee, but a participant here just as yourself.

There have been many requests similar to yours and I know the FS would like to provide some way to do something like this without violating international laws. I know that they have been looking at this challenge for a while, but I have no idea of where they might be on it.

So for the time being, we can only share records for deceased persons. Any records that you create for living persons are stored in your own personal space in your FS account and can not be viewed or accessed by anyone else.

Most other Genealogical websites also enforce this similarly.

I can't remember, seems I got a FamilySearch Identification Number, or PID Number, from my siblings, and then added all of us "Living" children to our deceased parents. Couldn't this patron do something like what I did?

Tom Huber said: Privacy laws prevail and FamilySearch will not violate those laws. It is a legal matter.

The only person who can see a living person's record is the user who created that record, which is stored in the user's "private space". It is not searchable and cannot be shared at the present time with other users.

A number of requests have been made to allow a number of users to access a living person's record, but so far, there has been no word on when or if this feature will become available.

I just used the "Find by ID" under the "Discover Your Deceased Ancestors" page, and it went right to my "Living" sisters information.
