You appear to be addressing three separate records collects: the massive tree identified as FamilySearch FamilyTree, the collection of Genealogies that consists of submitted (via GEDCOM) trees going back to the Ancestral file days and extending up to the present time, and the IGI which was originally part of the CD-based temple Ready program. The current IGI is a stripped down version that was added to the massive FamilyTree and if attached as a source, is found in the source list for the person’s involved in the IGI record.
The trees in the Genealogies section are user-submitted, usually lacks sources, and while many may be accurate, there are many that contain errors.
The only time that one of the trees can be used to feed the massive tree is when the contributor of their tree uploads it and subsequently runs a comparison routine.0 -

It is not obvious but I will provide two examples that explain how you can find the link between IGI records and the current family tree record. Because of incorrect combines in new FamilySearch and incorrect merges in Family Tree sometimes these records are now not where you believe they should be.
First consider that the IGI is broken into two separate data sets one known as the Indexed IGI and the other as the Contributed IGI. Every record in the Indexed IGI has been linked as a source and if you go to that record in the IGI search there is an indication of which record it is linked to in Family Tree. The image below displays the situation for George Harrold Jones christened in 1785 in Devon, England. The highlighted area displays the record in Family Tree that this IGI record is linked to.

https://www.familysearch.org/search/c...
is already in Family Tree. It was one of the several databases used to initially create and load Family Tree. It contains a huge number of duplicates and a lot of errors that people have been trying to fix and improve ever since Family Tree opened in 2012.
You are right, this file is not much use for adding information to Family Tree because the information is already in Family Tree and if that information has been corrected, using the IGI will only revert it back to bad information.0 -
Douglas Macfie said: Yes i understand, i have been working hard to place the ID codes on my family member if you go to Macfie you will see many connections I have made
it was just i open up the genealogy option instead of the family tree option on another computer and typed Macfie as i usually do and saw that while my family was all there, there was no indicated they had been matched to an ID number
I wonder why then was i doing this work if it was not matching every where in your system.... BUT now I understand there are several systems and they are not linked
so now I hope any other person working my family records will click on the right link so they can see how much work has been done
Thank you very much0
