The new Topic Tags for FamilySearch Memories are a great way to make it easier to group and find similar items. KUDOS to that project!!
However - with MILLIONS (Billions?) of Memories items already uploaded - some automated or semi-automated help from FamilySearch to get these already uploaded items tagged would be greatly appreciated. I wonder if a batch process could be created to automatically create tags for old memories items - possibly creating the following tags: a surname tag for every person/surname the item is attached to, a key word tag - based on the key words in the description or file name.

Tom Huber said: Topic Tags are a new way to organize the memories in your gallery. Before the new addition, we had albums, which made it possible to organize the memories by that method.
In my case, if I upload a death certificate, and place it in an album for the family of rhe person to which the certificate applies, I had no way to look at all death certificates spread across multiple families.
I tagged just one Death Certificate with the words Death Certificate. I was surprised to see a number behond the tag, but what happened is that the tag picked up the phrase that I used in the title.
When I clicked on the tiag, the screen shifted to the Find function in memories and displayed all of the memories that had been identified with that phrase, whether as a topic tag or in the title.
So, for those memories that have the topic tag as part of the title, it is not necessary to apply a topic tag.
At the present time, there is no means in place to select multiple memories from the Gallery. Once you click on a memory, it will open in its own window.
The memories area has gone through a number of refinements since it was first introduced. It appears that the topic tag is only an aid used with the Find function in memories. How it will be used in the future is something we do not know, but someone from FamilySearch involved with this area may respond to this request.0
