The indexer had started on the left column with one name then skipped to the right column for a few names, then back to the left column. A reminder in a message or other communication might remind indexers of the correct order to type the names. I returned the problem batch noted to be re-indexed with the current records deleted. Also important is that indexers are taught to use the ruler.

I believe this would help many indexers, particularly beginners, to avoid repeating the same mistakes. If they do not know that what they are doing is wrong, they are likely to keep repeating it over and over, making things difficult for the reviewers.0

We aren't looking to embarrass or punish anyone; we are only trying to show them the correct way to do it. The best secret anyone ever taught me was to use the ruler and that was way before I got involved with indexing. It has served me well ever since. They've tried almost everything else; maybe if we can last long enough they'll finally agree to either let us communicate or maybe they'll go back to square one and let actually let indexers see their "test results".0
