Adding Sources

Monica Watson said: When we are in Sources were trying to attach children to their father an obitutary and when we go to merge the children are not in there and telling us to create a new person and that creates a duplicate. They are already in Family Tree. Is there any way we can just put in an ID and bring them up and attach to their person page. Thank you Monica

gasmodels said: Monica, it would help a lot if you could provide an example of the issue you are having. Either and ID and a link to the source you are attempting to link or screenshots of the issue. I think you can use the Change Focus person to match the person in the record with any ID in Family Tree and link them that way if I understand your issue.0

There have been suggestions for better linkage to others mentioned in external sources, but this is a not something FamilySearch can help with. However, even with FamilySearch sources I believe I have found similar situations to yours, so - if the change of focus person suggestion does not work - perhaps the developers will give thought to your idea regarding a future enhancement to the program.0 -
Monica Watson said: Go into Familysearch and there is a Niels Anderson his number is KWJC-ST7. Go to 1913 Unfinished Sources Utah, Obituaries from Utah Newspapers, 1850-2005. Then click on it and it bings up the source. Then where it says add John , Ellen and Jospeh it brings up information about John Parents Ingeborg Paulsen and the father Niels Anderson . It wants me to adda duplicate and I don't want to add a duplicate. So my question is there any way to pull up the box that says put in the ID number where it finds people that are already in Family search?0

I do not know if the person in the right column is the correct John or not. If he is go ahead and attach. If he is not click change in the right hand column and enter the ID of the correct person and then attach.
The issue here is Niels had multiple spouses and children with each and that can confuse the source linker. However, if you change the left and right columns appropriately you can probably attach most of the persons in the source.0
