My wife died suddenly while scanning names in the Temple. She was a Senior computer programer, I am a computer dud. Anything we had to do on the computer she did it.
This includes Family History. I am struggling to keep up her work ... I won't let all her efforts and her goal for Family History die with her. I am frustrated by the fact that all the info we had gathered and she had entered about our live siblings, and their families, our parents siblings and their live families etc. all disappeared BECAUSE OF THE FACT THAT IT WAS ENTERED BY MY WIFE AND SHE DIED SUDDENLY.
I UNDERSTAND PRIVACY, however I feel there should be a safeguard allowing people to designate if they so desire another couple of family members to take over their files. i feel so frustrated at loosing that info. Our house burned 100% 2 years and 1 week before my wife died. We lost all our paper files and info. Now as I research and enter ancestors , I wish the church would makes this aspect easier for individuals like me. Then I think ... really what is the point in my entering other live family members because it will all disappear again from our family, when I die. I'm not young, none of my children will have access to all the info I re-enter on live family ,so it appears entering live info.t is a ridiculous waste of time. would you at least contemplate this type of problem and come to a reasonable plan of action , so that this portion of our work is not worthless ? The best thing I can think of is : How about when entries are made of live persons the Patron could elect to share with selected persons .... if not that .... at least designate someone to inherit their file should they die, with an option to change the designated person that receives the file ... any time they feel it appropriate to do so.
There must be some reasonable solution to this problem. Pleasssse Please !!!

S. said: good luck, one Idea is try to claim Legacy, but you must go throught the church, Another idea is back every thing up on a flash drive, or cds. their could be many other ideas, Just write this as a problem, and have the church people help also, I understand why and this does need to bee done, I gave you a few ideas, but I am not sure, which way you want to do it, so all I can is good luck. Pray and Heavenly father will help guide you on which is the best one to use.0

I do think FamilySearch needs to be extremely careful about to whom they release a living person's information.0 -

Ron Tanner said: I am sorry for your loss and struggles. First you must understand that nothing is lost or deleted. When an LDS member dies and this information is recorded on the membership record then we automatically disable their account. We have designed a bequeathing plan but have not implemented it yet. It looks like your wife was the one that entered the data in for living family members. You should be able to contact support, explain your situation and tell them you shared the account and they can re-enable that account. Also, in the future we will have the ability to share living entries with others which will also reduce these issues.0

In preferences all they need is a list of members who have agreed they would be willing to continue the work. Then when they die an email could be sent to those members asking them if they would like to take over the work. Responding to the email would give them full access.0

gasmodels said: I have heard nothing about it for several years. In addition, I have never heard of any implementation of Ron Tanners suggestion to restore an account of a deceased person because it was shared with a living person. The last couple of years we have been told that there is being developed an ability to share living records with other family members. However, again I have heard nothing about any testing of implementation of this feature.
As far as I know the situation is still essentially the same as it was 5 years ago. Because of that I have only entered a very few living records - my spouse and children and a couple of children's spouses. I chose not to enter any of my grandchildren or living cousins. Until we understand in which direction Family Search is going with this issue, I refuse to spend any time that might be wasted.0
